Hewes Super Bowl Trophy
In: Updates
8 Jan 2009So, we’re 4 games down and 7 to go. It gets tougher every step of the way, right. I mean, how can you pick the games this weekend where the home team is favored in all 4 games. Last week the road team was favored in all 4 up until the last moment when the Cards got the nod over the Falcons (rookie QB factor…).
So – how do you craft out a winning score this weekend?
Baltimore vs. Tennessee
The Titans played miserably the last few games and although they didn’t mean a whole lot, they have lost a bunch of that luster from the 10-0 start. And who is gonna bet against that Raven D? Kerry Collins looked invincible until late in the season and now he’s just another old QB. On the other side we have another rookie in Joe Flacco. The Titan D is banged up and a few guys may just be coming back from injury. Tennesse by 3 (which is what the home team gets automatically). This game is a tossup. Bet on Pete the Terp going with the Ravens, right?
Arizona vs. Carolina
Panthers by 10? Suppose Kurt Warner gets hot? They could put up 40 points themselves… Why is it that the Panthers never get the press they deserve? And what about the Cardinal D? That wasn’t supposed to happen last weekend. Suppose they play that way again and hold those Carolina RB’s to almost nothing? Can Delhomme carry the team with his arm? Easy pick, yeah?
Philadelphia vs. NY Giants
Are the Eagles the team to beat or what? And only 4 point underdogs against the defending SB champs? Eli was rusty down the stretch, too and Brandon Jacobs was a little gimpy. Can anyone stop Westbrook in the playoffs? The Eagle D and Giant D are about the same. This may come down to a late FG or untimely turnover. Good luck picking this one. Ben – who you going with? Tell me it’s not the Eagles…
San Diego vs. Pittsburgh
Maybe no LT? How is Ben? Steelers by 6 and for some reason Rivers keeps winning. Maybe the Steeler D will rule (as they have almost the entire year). Or will Sproles get another 350 total yards? Yikes! Better check the weather forecast in PA before making this choice… Never has a team (since 1989) with 8 losses won a game this deep in the playoffs
Do not forget 2 key things this weekend:
From its inception in 1989, the premier NFL Playoff football competition incorporates a dual-scoring system that rewards participants to not only pick the winning team, but also the game score with increasing significance every week
