Hewes Super Bowl Trophy
In: Updates
25 Jan 2010After the 2 conference championship games last weekend, Pete the Terp still finds himself clinging to the lead, as precarious as it may be. Here are the current standings with only 1 small game to go in a couple weeks:
Pete the Terp – 708 points (all-time record for points at this juncture)
Greg the Great – 681 (400 points last weekend)
Buffalo Bill – 599
2010 Winner – 580
Ben the Butler – 521
Comeback Kid – 388
Henrico FiveOh – 221
Particpant Analysis
Pete the Terp was consistent, posting 265 points for the 2 games. However, he can hear Greg the Great breathing down his neck (only 27 points behind). Buffalo Bill had an up and down weekend (at least he had an up, H5O), that started with a goose-egg (very familiar territory for the all-time leader in this category with 32) and ended with a 2-point variance and 215 points in the late game. 2010 Winner was a model of consistency and is positioned as they come down the home stretch. Ben the Butler was golden in the early game, but fizzled like Favre’s lame INT pass across the field in the latter game. Comeback Kid will need a big one, and had exactly 59 points in each Sunday game (a 1st). And then we have Henrico FiveOh, who upon the advice of The Commish picked both visiting teams and ended the weekend with a personal low of 15 total points. We’re always interested in his Super Bowl pick…
Conference Championship Game Observations
Indianapolis Colts 30, NY Jets 17
Well, the Jets certainly made this one very interesting after taking a rather healthy lead. I’ll bet a lot of folks were starting to believe that under that #6 jersey for NY was Joe Wille Namath, not Mark Sanchez. Ah, the memories of SB III (for those of you who can remember that game)… Then Peyton figured out (as he usually does) how to crack the Jets Code of Defense and tore them up for 3 TD passes. In the end, the Cinderella Jets ran out of gas and Shonn Greene’s rib injury did not help things. Give credit to the Indy D, too, as they stifled the Jets after the 1st 25 minutes.
New Orleans Saints 31, Minnesota Vikings 28 (OT)
Wow!! What a classic and maybe the last game Brett Favre will ever play until he un-retires for the 4th time this July once training camps get into full swing. The Saints are marching on to Miami, while the Vikes have a long, cold winter to replay those missed opportunities in their heads. They could have been the 1st team to lose 5 Super Bowls.
