Hewes Super Bowl Trophy

9 Jan 2011Is this a mis-print? Weren’t the Saints prohibitive 10-point favorites on the road? Isn’t a 7-9 team supposed to lose in the playoffs? Seahawk RB (and former Buffalo Bill) Marshawn Lynch sealed this one late with one of the greatest runs in playoff history, an electrifying 67-yard TD run in Q4 that saw at least 8 Saint wannabe defenders have him in their grasp, only to end up with nothing more than the Pacific Ocean breeze in their hands.
Can the Seahawks pull off another upset next weekend? Who cares if they were 2-6 on the road this season, with one of those wins against da Bears…
All HSBT participants picked the Aints in the one and Ben the Butler led the way with 41 points, as the hunt for THE Trophy officially started. On the other end of the ledger, Buffalo Bill added to his record of goose-eggs, with # 33…
A long march home for the Saints in this one. Ouch!
Another favorite bites the turf, as Jets Folk hero Nick booted the game winning FG as time expired. This low-scoring defensive struggle proved to be revenge for the Jets, who lost on this same field a year, 30-17, in the AFC Championship. Luckily for the errant-throwing Jet QB Mark Sanchez, his running game wore down the Colts and the Colts offense stalled several times. Colt WR Reggie Wayne was held to 1 catch for 1 yard by Jet CB Darrelle Revis, and that altered the Colts beleaguered WR corps and ultimately the outcome of this close game. The Jets get the lucky draw and head to New England to face what will be the highly favored 14-2 Patriots, who beat them in Foxboro like a proverbial drum 45-3 late in the season.
2011 Winner was the only participant to pick the Jets and prevailed in this one, earning 43 points, while Comeback Kid got a golden goose-egg…
Hit the Snooze button on this one. Other than the Jamaal Charles 41-yard romp, the Chiefs looked like a bunch of squaws. Ravens D was outstanding (5 turnovers), but possibly the competition was not too stellar. On to Pittsburgh for another nail-biter next weekend.
Mike Vick had the off-game and Aaron Rodgers was stellar. Nuff said… On to Atlanta for the Pack and the Eagles get to pack it up for the season. Goose-eggs galore…
Henrico FiveOh has a slim lead and it’s early. Be sure to get all 4 game picks PLUS YOUR SUPER BOWL BONUS PICK in before the Pittsburgh/Raven slugfest next Saturday afternoon.
